RAX stands for a Raman spectrometer on-board of the Martian Moon eXploration (MMX) rover. The Raman Spectrometer is designed to investigate the surface mineralogy of the Martian moon Phobos, according to the top-level science objectives of the MMX mission as defined by mission prime JAXA. The mission will be launched in 2024.
KTO was responsible for the MAIT of the objectives.
