Customer: Breakthrough in collaboration with the European Southern Observatory (ESO)
The objective of the NEAR (New Earths in the Alpha Cen Region) experiment is to search for potentially habitable planets around both components of the binary Alpha Centauri.
The experiment, which has been carried out in a cooperation between ESO and the Breakthrough Initiative, is based on the upgrade of the VLT mid-IR imager VISIR for adaptive optics operations and noise reduction.
